An eyelid is a thin fold of skin that covers and protects an eye. Eyelid surgery officially called as blepharoplasty .Any person above the age of 18 years of ages is able to get the advantage from blepharoplasty. Patients with extra skin or puffy appearance on the upper eyelids; excess skin, bags and dark circles on the lower eyelids go through such surgery.
The majority of age group opting for eyelid surgery is 35 or older. However if tired out and baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age. Younger patients in their 20s or 30s might improve their hereditary personality that can make them look elder or tired.
As the age goes on increases, the eyelid skin stretches, muscles weaken, and fat accumulates around the eyes, causing "bags" above and below. Eyelid surgery is a process to take away fat-usually around the eyes with extra skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids.
The eyelid surgeries can be modified according to the difficulty. If only the upper eyelids are affected there is no need to operate on the lower eyelids, and vice versa.
Eyelid surgery is able to make accurate relaxed upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes – features those make you look elder and tired, and may even interfere with your vision. Though, it won’t remove crow's feet or other wrinkles or eliminate dark circles under your eyes.
Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures. A forehead lift is recommended if the upper eyelid condition is accompanied by sagging of the eyebrows. Blepharoplasty generally takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.
After surgery, the eyes are lubricated with ointment and then dressed. Your eyelids might experience tight and painful as the anesthesia wears off. Some uneasiness or pain can be controlled with the pain medicine.
You should use eye drops, as the eyelids may feel dry at initial and might burn or irritate; you may also experience extreme tearing, sensitivity to light and temporary blurring or double vision.
After surgery healing is a regular process, and your scars may remain slightly pink for 6 months or more. Ultimately, though, they will become lighter to a thin, almost unseen white line.
The positive results of your eyelid surgery will be the more alert and youthful look which will last for years. For a lot of people, these results are everlasting.
